Cost of life in Bihar @70/-only

On the fateful night of 28th Sept around 8:30 pm, a small time shopkeeper closes his shop and approaches his home for after whole day work. The electricity is off, As soon as he’s on his door, a bullet hits his spine and comes out of the front part of the body, above the chest. He collapses, he’s rushed to couple of nursing home nearby but faces refusal, finally gets some elementary treatment at the referral first aid center, at the block level. The local police gets the information, sends a constable to get the statement recorded.
The man who never had friend in the life, forget the enemies, doesn’t know what has happened to him. He cries.. prays to the God. His wife and six little children are wailing. Every one is clueless about this incident. How could this tragedy struck to this man?
He’s still alive some relative arranges the vehicle to get him admitted to the district hospital which is about 30kms far. The roads are simply the pathetic at the best. The 30 km ordeal takes around more than 2 hrs. After somehow he manages to get admitted to the district hospital. The junior doctor on the duty admit this as emergency case. The doctor takes the X-ray and provides the saline water. This the emergency ICU treatment he gets at the district hospital,JLNMCH (one of the biggest in infrastructure, infact late former PM Rajiv Gandhi had inaugurated it).The doctor at the helm says since bullet has come out of the body. So he’s “out of danger”. He’s given antibiotics as the treatment. The police constable is again besides his bed to take the statement, where he’s interested to know the identity of person who had fired bullet on him.
Their grief stricked relatives unhappy with the doctors treatment wants to shift him to other private clinics. But nobody wants to admit him, because he’s hit by bullet. For which the man doesn’t have any explanation. He cries and prays, still shocked to murmur anything. Then some seniors doctors arrive takes the X-ray and conveys that he has to be shifted to PMCH and he’s still not out of danger.
Now taking him to Patna, a Herculean task, trains not convenient, he has to be shifted by road. The journey of 225km to Patna from Bhagalpur is itself a journey through hell, with literally no roads, in heavy downpour. Finally his relative, takes this last ditch effort to save his life. The journey begins and it takes 9 hrs to reach Patna. Finally after this hellish experience, he’s admitted to good private nursing home in the ICU. There then doctors come to know that his body below lower waist has stopped moving. The big blow to the family. He’s the only earning member of the family and was earning hand to mouth for the survival.

Why he was tried to shot down? Possibly because of his lower caste status , as he happened to own a small piece of ancestral land on the road side for which biggies of dominant caste were eyeing upon.
The great exhibiton of the musclepower possibly trying to justify the Darwin’s theory of survival. If you want leave in Bihar where law has the scant respect. You need to be like them. Where law has become the mere tool in the hands the powerfuls of Bihar.
The Great Bihari egoism combined with caste supremacy armed with the illegal arms and scant respect to law of land. It has really become, One of the most pathetic social malaise, which is responsible for all the ills of Bihar.
This incident exhibited the hollowness of the road infrastructure and medical facilities in Bihar. Even the word pathetic is Sham to describes the conditions. I think only God is there to help the patient which need s the medical emergency.
And our great Bihar Police, which hardly needs to be mentioned here, even after a month, of this cold blooded ghastly incident still not able to trace the assailants.

The man on whom bullet was fired is my maternal uncle, and incident happened in Sultanganj, Bhagalpur. Although, he has survived, but still his body below lower waist is paralytic and getting treatment in a nursing home in Patna. The six little kids still don’t know, what’s their future is? Who’s going to feed them? Why their school going has stopped? The whole family is in greatest distress ever.
The cost of human life in Bihar is just Rs 70/-... .. the cost of bullet.
The incident has really given me shock of my life. Really scared about my parents well being who live back in Bhagalpur. I really want them to come out of that place. May be my reactions are extreme, but I cannot help myself. I am really scared and don’t feel like living in that part of country.
